Because I didn’t know I could. I know, it sounds

Because I didn’t know I could.

I know, it sounds insane. You’re probably thinking:
How could someone smart, ambitious, and driven NOT ask for more money?

But working with my clients now, I realize I’m far from alone.
Brilliant, accomplished women - completely unaware of what they’re losing.
In my case? Roughly €500,000 over the course of my surgical career.

In medicine, we’re conditioned to believe it’s not about the money.
We care about patients. We serve. We took the Hippocratic oath.
Talking about money feels… unethical. Almost dirty.

So when I started, I didn’t even ask what I would earn, let alone negotiate.
I just assumed there was a tariff contract and that was that.

I remember one occasion in lead to my consultant job in Berlin.
I asked about the salary and the answer was:
“It should be enough to get a nice apartment in Berlin.”

And I accepted that. 🤯
That sentence defined my worth for years.

Fast-forward to my pivot into healthcare consulting at 36.
I negotiated my salary for the first time.

Within four months on “the other side of the table,” I learned what was actually possible:
off-tariff contracts, performance bonuses, equity…

A whole new world.

Looking back, I wasn’t stupid. I was simply uninformed.
No one teaches women in medicine - or most industries - how to negotiate.

That’s part of the fire behind what I do today.
I help brilliant women not make the same mistake.
Because knowing your worth isn’t arrogance.
It’s strategy.
