I was invited to speak at a women’s healthcare l

I was invited to speak at a women’s healthcare leadership event. 
They said I’d be a perfect fit.
They loved my story: from cardiac surgeon to Big4 director to corporate leader.
 They said the value I’d bring would be tremendous.
We agreed on a reduced speaking fee: $1,750. Below my usual rate, but I said yes.
Why? 
Because I “grew up” in healthcare. Because I believe in using my voice to lift up other women. Because I wanted to support the mission.

Then the invoice arrived.

But instead of paying me the speaking fee, we had agreed on, they were asking ME to pay THEM.
Yes, really. $1,750 for the “opportunity” to speak.🤯

Let me be clear: I don’t pay to speak. I’m paid to speak.

I’ve spent over two decades building the kind of experience and insight that adds real value on any stage I step onto. And I never compromise on integrity—especially when it comes dressed up as “exposure.”

If your event claims to elevate women’s voices, the bare minimum is to respect their value.

We don’t move the needle by putting women on stage for free (or for a fee). We move it by making sure their work is recognized, respected and paid.

Needless to say, I declined (but not without sharing my thoughts with them 🤬)
