We were celebrating my grandma’s 98th birthday last week.
Yes, 98 🤯!
She`s using a walker these days, but her mind? Sharp as ever.
And while I expected some good cake and family updates… I didn’t expect to walk away reflecting on longevity.
She’s not from the green juice and gym generation.
But she has worked physically hard her entire life.
Into her late 70s, she still helped at the local farm with harvest – on her knees, picking vegetables, lifting heavy crates.
Not glamorous. Not gentle.
But demanding work that kept her flexible, strong, and moving.
Today, she’s still reaping those benefits.
It got me thinking:
We’ve built lives around convenience and comfort.
Standing desks. Food delivery. Shortcuts wherever possible.
But maybe the secret to longevity isn’t doing what’s easy – maybe it’s doing what’s hard.
The job that stretches you.
The workout you don’t feel like doing.
The next step that feels uncomfortable, because it’s new.
Maybe flexibility – in body and life – isn’t built by avoiding challenge.
It’s built by choosing it.
Oh, and the secret to her skin 😉?
Nivea. For as long as I can remember.
See you next week,
Dr. Kerstin
